Last November, the Semiconductor Industry Association (SIA) released its annual forecast for worldwide semiconductor sales for 2007 through 2010. The forecast projected global chip sales of $276.9B for 2008 and sales of $321B in 2010. The forecast predicted that the industry will grow at a compound annual growth rate of 7.7% through 2010.
In the first quarter of 2008, sales of semiconductors grew by 3.8% over the first quarter of 2007. Despite a slowing U.S. economy, first quarter sales were buoyed by increasing sales of consumer products in international markets. With the chip industry increasingly driven by sales of consumer electronics, SIA is closely watching developments, such as rising energy and food costs, that impact discretionary consumer spending.
Tune in to this mid-year webcast for the latest SIA forecast of global semiconductor sales through 2011. SIA President George Scalise will offer comments and analysis of what may lie ahead for the global chip industry.
