ALLENTOWN, Pa., June 25 /PRNewswire/ -- Akrion, Inc. ("Akrion"), a supplier of solar and semiconductor surface preparation equipment, today announced receipt of another purchase order for an automated batch-immersion system for solar cell production. The solar wet station will ship to a customer in the United States later this year.

Akrion has had great success in recent weeks with providing surface preparation solutions for manufacturers of solar cells. This tool will be used for advanced front-end-of-the-line (FEOL) cleaning of the silicon surface prior to application of the next layer using Akrion's patented advanced FEOL ozone process. The system also uses Akrion's patented ICE-1(TM) chemical concentration control for managing etch rates. The ICE system algorithm controls chemical ratios in each wafer lot, thereby assuring consistent lot-to-lot process results.

Akrion President and CEO, James S. Molinaro said, "Akrion's patented advanced FEOL process is helping to improve solar cell efficiency by providing superior surface preparation technology for a pristine silicon surface prior to adding the next conductive layer. This helps our customers produce higher efficiencies and lower costs per watt."
