Nasdaq-listed LDK Solar Co. Ltd., Asia's largest silicon wafer manufacturer, aims to become the world's largest silicon wafer supplier by 2009, state media reported Tuesday.

According to Shanghai Securities News, Peng Xiaofeng, LDK Solar's CEO, has raised the company's annual wafer production capacity target for the end of this year from 800 megawatts (MW) to 1,100 MW. Attaining this goal will make the company the world's largest silicon wafer producer.

The company's 2009 target has also raised from 1,600 MW to 2,000 MW.

LDK Solar has received orders for over 12,000 MW worth of polysilicon wafers over the next 10 years, the report said.

The company's net sales for the first quarter of this year reached $233.4 million, up 21.1 percent from the $192.8 million it recorded for the fourth quarter of 2007, and up 218 percent year-on-year.
